Home Demonstration Club
One of the significant developments in Hale County after 1923 was the growth of Home Demonstration Clubs. The May 1974 issue of Hale County History was devoted to chronicling the first fifty years of this important work.1 The Snyder Home Demonstration Club was organized September 25, 1924, in the home of Mrs. Jim White. This happened to be the house that Peter B. Snyder had built in 1908/09. Families listed on this web site were represented by Lora (Mrs. O. C.) McClain, Lydia (Mrs. W. I.) Johnson, Caroline (Mrs. W. C.) Buntin, and Elsie (Mrs. J. P.) McGarr. The Snyder Jr. Club was organized in 1949. The Snyder Senior Club was the program committee for the 50th anniversary celebration in 1974. It was the only Hale County Club that had functioned continuously since 1924. Members in 1974 included Caroline (Mrs. W. C.) Buntin, Elsie (Mrs. J. P.) McGarr, Miss Ora Ellis, Creola (Mrs. B. M.) Harris, and Veda (Mrs. H. J.) Ellis.2
