John P. and Elsie (Hoxie) McGarr

The McGarrs, a Catholic family, came to Snyder Community with infant daughter Mary Lucille in October 1915. John farmed the Van Howeling farm north of Plainview for five years, running it as a model farm for prospective land buyers. In 1920, John and Elsie bought the Joel Guengerich farm, where they lived until 1969. That year they retired from farming and moved into Plainview.1
