Snyder Community Families after 1923

William & Lydia Clemintine (Springer) Johnson

(These are the basic facts I have for this family, listed here to help guide the research process. As photos, family stories, and other data are submitted, I hope to develop a narrative.)

According the Hale County History, the Johnsons moved to Plainview in the fall of 1917 "for better farming land and to be near relatives."1 Those nearby relatives might have been Lydia's brother Marion Springer and his wife Sarah Burns. The article also says that William and Lydia's daughter Zora boarded with her aunt and uncle while she taught at Kress school (north of Plainview, in Swisher County) about 1922 or 1923. Juanita, a granddaughter of Lydia's twin sister Lyvia, wrote to me that "the two sisters were very close, and they were always telling each other how they had been mistaken for the other in Plainview at the grocery store." 2
